A trained dog is a happy dog because the dog and the owner understand each other's expectations and can communicate. Training however, is mostly about establishing habits, so training should start with puppies even before they go to their adopted family -- establishing habits such as not petting or giving attention until they sit down, not allowing jumping on people, or not holding them or allowing sitting on laps and furniture unless they will be a lap dog when they are full grown. The sitter uses positive reinforcement to reinforce basic obedience training, and will work on specific things with the dog and/or the owner at the owner's request. |
